Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about recycled base materials, CMB base rock, and portable on-site crushing in California. Don't see your question? Call (818) 612-7511.
What is recycled base material?
Recycled base material is aggregate made by crushing reclaimed concrete, asphalt, and rock from construction and demolition projects into a graded product that can be reused as road base, sub-base, backfill, and structural fill. It replaces virgin quarried stone, keeps usable material out of landfills, and typically costs less than new aggregate.
What is CMB, and what is the difference between Class 2 and Class 3?
CMB stands for Crushed Miscellaneous Base — recycled base rock produced from crushed concrete and aggregate. Class 2 base is a higher-specification aggregate base commonly used under roadways and pavements, with tighter gradation and quality requirements. Class 3 is a lower-cost base/sub-base used where those stricter requirements are not needed. Recycled Base Materials produces CMB Class 2, Class 3, and other specification base products.
Is recycled base as good as virgin aggregate? Does it meet spec?
Properly produced recycled base is engineered to meet applicable city, county, and state specifications for base and sub-base, and it performs comparably to virgin aggregate in most base applications. We produce spec-grade CMB and provide material that meets the standards required for your project.
What is portable (on-site) crushing, and why use it?
Portable crushing means we bring self-contained mobile crushing plants directly to your job site instead of you hauling debris to a fixed facility. Crushing on site cuts trucking costs, disposal fees, road wear, and emissions, and it keeps reusable aggregate on the project where you need it.
How much does on-site crushing or recycled base material cost?
Cost depends on the volume of material, the type of debris, site conditions, and location. On-site crushing usually saves money compared with hauling material off site and buying virgin aggregate, because it eliminates most trucking and disposal costs. Call (818) 612-7511 for a project-specific quote.
What areas do you serve?
Recycled Base Materials is based in Westlake Village, California and provides portable crushing throughout the entire state of California, from San Diego to Sacramento. Because our plants are mobile, we come to your job site.
What materials can you crush and recycle?
We process concrete, rock, sand, asphalt, and other construction and demolition debris. These materials are crushed and screened into recycled aggregates and spec base products for reuse in new construction.
How quickly can you mobilize?
For time-critical and emergency projects we can mobilize and set up crushing and recycling plants in a matter of days rather than weeks or months, keeping disaster-recovery, storm-cleanup, and tight construction schedules on track.
What are the environmental and LEED benefits of recycled base?
Recycling construction and demolition material on site diverts waste from landfills and reduces demand for virgin quarried stone and long-haul trucking. This lowers a project's carbon footprint and can contribute toward LEED certification credits for construction-waste diversion and recycled content.
