Project Description

The Security Paving Interstate 15 Freeway project in Riverside County incorporates advanced sustainability practices by recycling demolished concrete onsite and using it as Class 2 aggregate base material for new construction, significantly reducing environmental impact and supporting regional resource efficiency. Working with Recycled Base Materials, Inc. (RBM), 40,000 tons of existing highway concrete were crushed onsite and repurposed, minimizing landfill waste and eliminating the need for new raw materials. The recycling process involved the demolition of the two outside travel lanes, followed by high-capacity mobile crushing and placement of the recycled concrete in the road’s sub-base layer, supporting Caltrans’ strict sustainability goals. This closed-loop recycling approach aligns with Security Paving's broader commitment to environmental stewardship and efficient engineering, drastically reducing both material transportation costs and the overall construction timeline.
